Resto mod Midyear...

Carlisle or bust!!! with less then 6 weeks to go...

The starting point, an already modified 1966 corvette roadster built from a low mileage 91 corvette in the early 90's.  the car still has less then 1200 miles on it since it was done. Some said the car was too nice to cut on, but I just do not like the big ugly flares, nose high attitude, and general 70's hot rod look. Why waste a C4 chassis on a car that looks like this??? The car is built out of quite a few different year corvettes. some call it a creation..others a frankenstien...I think I will name it Frank! and so the transformation of this restomod begins...

big flares gone in favor of GTS customs new rear quarters, what a difference this made to the car....

while I was at it I dismounted the tilt front end and lowered the hinges for a total of about 2 1/2 inch drop in the nose. It required some cutting and trimming, but was well worth the effort. car now has a much better stance, next...time to loose those fugly front flares!!! (tape line emulates finished wheel lip location)

Well I think the car looks much better...3 flares down, 1 to go....just waiting on the rest of the parts to arrive... Maybe I will move on to the next idea...

I wanted a C6 waterfall and seat humps in a midyear for a while, I had the stuff, it turned out good...but was a royal pain.

Thanks to ACI fiberglass I got the needed fender repair panel in a Hurry! now working on repairing the last remaining wheel well...and the old Guam bomb lends a part...I needed a parking lamp panel...so there it is! a little bit of the Guam bomb has made it to Carlisle almost every year! 4 weeks to go

Stinger finally back on the hood (like it should be!) car is finally looking like a midyear corvette again!

back up light panel changed...led lights tested, prime and block and prime and block....3 weeks from from today!

shell painted, doors painted (corvette velocity yellow) and reinstalled, rear of car assembled...it was a busy weekend!!

nose and hatch painted this weekend and installed....

It drove all the way to Carlisle without instance, alternator went out while I was there, but that was the extent of any issues. it was nice to set the cruise and get 25+ mpg...

wheels changed, and now converted to a 6 speed, new dash to follow. So now what I have is a resto mod 66 corvette roadster that drives like a modern car with most all the conveniences of a new car. it has power 4 wheel discs, power rack and pinion steering, power windows, cruise, fuel injection, 6 speed w/overdrive, cold ac, warm heat, power seats, modern C4 corvette suspension, C6 brakes, touch screen stereo with navigation, XM and IPod connection, yet the looks, sound and personality of a midyear corvette.
